The scientific committee of The International Organization of Folk Art (IOV) is hosting a conference this year, with the support of the IOV MENA regional headquarters in Sharjah, under the heading “Folk Culture: The Present and Future Pathways” (20-24 November 2018, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates).
The conference will discuss the dimensions of the relationship between folk culture and the effects of modern life. How can this form of culture stay relevant in the minds of people, regardless of the new methods of communication, the technological revolution and many other challenges?
What will be left of folk culture and what will change? Furthermore, how will this look like in everyday life? And what effect will these changes have on creative pursuits (literature, theatre, cinema, video games, etc…). These are the exciting themes we would like explored this year.
In order to guide you further, we invite researchers to submit papers utilizing the following topics:
- Folk culture and the arts (cinema, theatre, music, etc…).
- Folk culture and the effects of modern technology.
- Folk culture and social media networks.
It is important to note that:
a) Abstracts must be submitted no later than July 30th 2018 and the final papers before September 30th 2018.
b) The regional office in Sharjah will cover each participant’s ticket, accommodation and local transportation fees in the UAE.

I work in the academy or Dhivehi Language. We work on preserving the cultural heritage of the Maldives. We would like to know if we can still submit a paper for this conference.

Fue representante de México ante la UNESCO en Abu Dhabi(2009) sobre el tema de patrimonio cultural inmaterial y en la reunión de afrodescendientes en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, 2008. Ha impartido talleres de promoción cultural para maestros, niños y jóvenes en más de 15 estados de la república y en Venezuela. Coordinadora de una ludoteca en el Gobierno de la Ciudad de México. Participante en el CIESAS en el programa de Comunicación Indígena. Editora de libros y materiales didácticos en CONAGUA, Gobierno del Distrito Federal, Secretaría de salud y distintas empresas. Actualmente Directora de Realiza Comunicación S. C. y de Forja, culturas en movimiento, A. C.
Coordinadora del expediente “Procesos artesanales para la elaboración de cerámica de Talavera” candidatura 2018-2019. En dictaminación en la UNESCO como Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial (PCI).
