Abaim is a non-governmental organisation in existence for the past 40 years now. While still being attentive to the issue of integration of partially-sighted and Blind Persons in society which was it main focus at its origin, the sphere of action of the organization had focused on community-based overall child care development for vulnerable children and families through artistic creativity and active methods, for the past twenty years now. The use of cultural heritage through the consistent observation, research, collection, analysis, preservation and dissemination of the elements of our intangible heritage together with the practicing of various forms of traditional arts, has been a major tool in empowering children and families in our aim at combating poverty in deprived areas such as Barkly, Le Morne and Grand Bay.
