UN Etxea – Basque Country Association for UNESCO is a non-profit organization founded in 1991 to promote the principles, values and programmes of UNESCO within Basque society. It brings together individuals and institutions committed to advancing human rights, cultural diversity, peace and sustainable development, fostering connections between local action and global challenges.
The association maintains official relations with UNESCO and holds Roster Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), while also being part of the global network of UNESCO Clubs and Associations and associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications. At the state and regional level, it is a member of the Spanish Coordination of UNESCO Associations and coordinates in the Basque Country the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
Through its work, UN Etxea seeks to generate individual and collective attitudes that encourage Basque society to embrace the values of human rights and sustainability, contributing actively to the shared global commitment to sustainable development.
