This project proposes the development of a comprehensive resource model designed to support associations engaged in the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. Its primary aim is to promote the protection, transmission, and dissemination of cultural traditions through collaborative action involving archives, libraries, schools, and local communities. By establishing a coordinated network of institutional and community stakeholders, the initiative seeks to strengthen collective responsibility for cultural heritage and enhance the visibility of traditional practices within contemporary society.
The project emphasises several key objectives. First, it seeks to safeguard cultural traditions by reinforcing the essential role that associative organisations play in heritage protection. Second, it aims to foster education and public awareness regarding the value of these traditions and the urgent need for their conservation, ensuring that such efforts remain consistent with the principles and ethos of associative work. Third, it focuses on improving access to information preserved in libraries and archives by promoting cooperative strategies between associations and relevant institutions. Finally, it encourages the adoption of new technologies as a means to support the reciprocal recognition and documentation of intangible cultural heritage, in alignment with the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
To achieve these aims, the project employs a methodology based on institutional collaboration, training, and community engagement. Agreements will be established with schools, libraries, archives, and cultural associations to enable the coordinated implementation of activities. Training and capacity-building initiatives will prepare local leaders to manage, guide, and monitor the project’s actions effectively. In addition, the project will foster synergies that encourage the participation of communities, groups, and individuals in safeguarding and disseminating their cultural heritage, thereby ensuring compliance with the principles of the UNESCO 2003 Convention and promoting a participatory, community-centred approach.
The project is financially viable through the combined support of local institutions and the sponsorship of the UNESCO Centre of San Sebastián, which ensures both its feasibility and its long-term sustainability. This collaborative framework provides the necessary foundation for a durable and impactful initiative dedicated to the preservation and strengthening of intangible cultural heritage.
